Heart conditions
A heart condition can affect how you feel during your normal day, from how easily you move and breathe to how much energy you have. Symptoms like fatigue, shortness of breath or an irregular heartbeat can start slowly or become more noticeable over time and they can begin to interfere with your routine.
At Vandalia Health, we evaluate and treat a wide range of heart conditions, from common concerns to more complex diagnoses. These conditions may affect your heart muscle, valves, rhythm or blood vessels and often require a closer look at how your heart and circulation are working.
Our team takes a clear, step-by-step approach to care. We help you understand your symptoms, what may be causing them and how your condition can be treated and managed moving forward.
Types of heart conditions
Heart conditions can develop in different ways and may affect different parts of the cardiovascular system. Understanding how they develop can help guide the right care.
Congenital heart conditions
These conditions are present at birth and may affect the structure of the heart or how blood flows through it. Some are identified early in life, while others may not be diagnosed until adulthood.
Gradual or chronic conditions
Many heart conditions develop over time. They can be related to factors like your age, lifestyle choices or other health conditions you have.
Sudden or acute conditions
Some heart conditions appear quickly and may require immediate attention. Changes in heart rhythm, blood flow or heart function can lead to heart attacks [www.vandaliahealth.org/services/heart-care/conditions/early-heart-attack-care] and other symptoms that need prompt evaluation.

When to talk to a heart specialist
Paying attention to changes in how you feel is an important part of protecting your heart health. Symptoms can be mild at first or come and go, but they may be a sign that your heart needs attention. Schedule an appointment if you experience any of these symptoms:
- Chest discomfort or pressure
- Shortness of breath
- Fatigue that does not improve with rest
- Dizziness or fainting
- Irregular or rapid heartbeat
It is also a good idea to get an evaluation if you have risk factors such as high blood pressure, diabetes or a family history of heart disease, even if you're not experiencing symptoms.
If you are experiencing chest pain, pressure, shortness of breath or other possible signs of a heart attack, call 911 and go to the nearest emergency room.
Our program holds accreditation and certification from the American College of Cardiology in key areas of cardiovascular care, including Chest Pain Center with Primary PCI, Cardiac Cath Lab with PCI and Transcatheter Valve Certification.
