Heroes of Healthcare: Timothy Dyess
Timothy Dyess works in Maintenance at Vandalia Health CAMC General Hospital.
When the air handlers shut down for repairs, the heat and humidity in Central Sterile became extremely high. These conditions can cause sterile trays to sweat and potentially become compromised, which would have required reprocessing all of the trauma trays and any additional trays needed for patient care.
Dyess recognized the importance of the situation and took fans, dehumidifiers and air units to help control the conditions and prevent trays from being damaged. He didn't just provide the equipment and leave. He repeatedly came back to check on staff, making sure they had everything they needed.
His quick response, willingness to help and continued concern for staff and equipment helped protect sterile trays, avoid unnecessary reprocessing and ensure continuous patient care.
