Heroes of Healthcare: Shyanne Friebel
Shyanne Friebel, RN, works in the Emergency Room at Vandalia Health CAMC Plateau Medical Center.
While she consistently demonstrates excellence in patient care every day, one recent act of kindness exemplifies the type of healthcare professional she is.
During a busy emergency department shift, Shyanne cared for a patient who had experienced a severe allergic reaction after being stung by a bee. In the chaos of the emergency, the patient threw aside his expensive hearing protection as he sought help.
After providing excellent care throughout her 12-hour shift, Friebel drove to the scene where the incident had occurred, searched for the patient's hearing protection, located it, and personally ensured it was returned to him.
This was not something she was asked to do, nor was it expected of her. It was a voluntary act that demonstrated genuine empathy and a desire to make a meaningful difference in someone's life. She recognized that what may have seemed like a small item to others represented something valuable to the patient, and she took it upon herself to restore not only his property but also a sense of relief during what had already been a stressful experience.
This act is only one example of the person and nurse Friebel is every day.
