Heroes of Healthcare: Sharon Lake
On only her third day working at CAMC Cardiology-Teays Valley Sharon Lake, Nurse Practitioner, went out of her way for a patient.
As staff was leaving work at the end of the day, Lake saw a patient from another clinic in the parking lot with his small children and noticed something wasn’t right.
His car battery was dead.
Without hesitation, Lake parked her car, contacted her husband for guidance and proceeded to help jump-start the patient’s vehicle. While doing so, she also checked on the well-being of his children, who had been waiting in the car for over an hour since his appointment.
This moment reflects Lake’s deep compassion, strong sense of accountability and commitment to excellence in care—extending far beyond the walls of the clinic. She did not see this individual as just a patient from earlier in the day, but as a person in need of help.
