Heroes of Healthcare: Molli Vanhorn
Molli Vanhorn is a Health Unit Coordinator 2 in the Medical ICU at Vandalia Health CAMC Teays Valley Hospital.
The unit cared for an elderly female patient who was having a hard time adjusting to the vulnerability of being admitted to the ICU.
Vanhorn made sure to let the nurses knew ahead of time and suggested she help aid the patient instead of a male nurse with the standard bath.
Vanhorn established trust and ensured privacy for this patient. She also took time to get her a warm washcloth and towel to provide extra coverage during the patient’s assessment and bath.
Not only did Vanhorn provide verbal reassurance, but she made each task as comfortable as she could, taking time to explain things and help put the patient at ease.
