Heroes of Healthcare: Lesley Oxley
Lesley Oxley, RN, is the Office Nurse Coordinator at CAMC Family Resource Center.
Recently, one of the FRC’s high-risk behavioral health patients became unhoused and faced significant barriers to securing safe housing. The situation was particularly challenging because the patient also relies on an emotional support dog, which further limited available housing options.
Recognizing the urgency of the patient's circumstances, Oxley took extraordinary initiative to advocate on the patient's behalf.
She contacted numerous state and local agencies, housing programs and community resources to find appropriate housing. Despite encountering many dead ends, due to limited housing availability, she remained committed to helping this patient.
Oxley was finally able to connect with an apartment manager/complex that met this patient's needs and supported her ESA dog. She also ensured the patient obtained their medication and provided information for food resources.
