Heroes of Healthcare: Katelyn Smiley
Katelyn Smiley, RN, works at Vandalia Health Broaddus Hospital.
Smiley worked with a patient and family so that the patient could get home with Hospice during an emergent situation.
The patient request was to pass at home; the diligent work and interaction with the patient and the family allowed just that.
When Smiley came to work that morning, the patient was in the ER awaiting a form that needed completed and notarized to assist with Hospice.
Smiley was diligent in educating the staff and patient's family. The form was completed allowing the patient to go back home under the care of Hospice in an expedited fashion. The patient passed away shortly after getting home.
Without Smiley's action, the wishes of the patient may not have happened. She consistently puts patients first and met not only the needs and wishes of this patient but also his family.
