Heroes of Healthcare: Dr. Egor Cherkasov
Dr. Egor Cherkasov is a resident in the pediatric ICU at Vandalia Health CAMC Women and Children’s Hospital.
Dr. Cherkasov exemplifies our mission, vision and values by his outstanding support and teamwork in the unit.
Recently, a critically ill patient was on the ventilator and required a significant amount of sedation. The patient was very mobile in bed and frequently fighting the ventilator. Dr. Cherkasov remained at the bedside alongside the nursing staff, prioritizing patient safety and actively listening to nursing concerns.
He was receptive to feedback regarding the need for increased sedation and helped ensure the patient was more comfortable and safely managed. He also assisted nursing with hands-on care, including helping change the patient’s diaper and demonstrating a true team-first mindset.
Additionally, after using equipment such as the otoscope and ultrasound machine he has taken the initiative to thoroughly clean them himself using the proper disinfectant wipes, even though this is typically handled by HUCS.
Dr. Cherkasov’s teamwork, attentiveness and respect for nursing input make a meaningful difference in patient care and unit culture.
