Heroes of Healthcare: Derek Lester
Derek Lester is a nurse practitioner at CAMC Urgent Care.
A patient presented to Urgent Care with an eye injury and needed to be transferred to the Ophthalmology office that afternoon.
However, the patient did not have transportation. He had walked to Urgent Care from his home.
Lester scheduled and paid for an Uber ride for this patient so he could get to his appointment and be treated in a timely manner.
Lester also told the patient that if he needed assistance getting back home, to contact us so that we could make the necessary arrangements for him.
Not only did Lester show this patient compassion, but it also avoided sending the patient to the emergency room when it was not necessary.
