Heroes of Health Care: Hilary Jordan and Ryan Burgess
Hilary Jordan and Ryan Burgess are advanced practice providers for CAMC Neurosurgery.
Recently, a medical emergency occurred on one of the nursing units at CAMC General Hospital involving a patient who had been admitted about a month earlier with a stroke that required neurosurgical intervention.
During the emergency call, the patient’s condition deteriorated rapidly and required immediate attention.
Jordan and Ryan were rounding on patients on that unit and immediately stepped in to assist when the emergency unfolded. Although their team had not been directly involved in the patient’s care for several weeks, they quickly joined the response.
Both accompanied the patient to imaging and then to the ICU, where they assisted the team with the patient’s stabilization and communicated with the ICU providers, offering helpful insight into the patient’s condition and prior neurosurgical history.
While neither had an obligation to assist during this time, they willingly stepped in and worked collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, demonstrating strong teamwork and a shared commitment to ensuring patient safety during a critical situation.
